As Sports Tourism continues to grow in Barbados, cricket, horse racing, sailing and tennis are just some of the competitive sports that Barbados hosts throughout the year, so whatever the season, you're likely to find a fixture to enjoy during your stay.
For lovers of an equine flutter, the Historic Garrison Savannah, close to the capital, Bridgetown, has been the home of horse racing in Barbados since 1845. The officers of the British Regiment, who were stationed in Barbados, used what was then the parade ground to match their horses in races and the wealthy merchants and planters later joined them.
Today, the excitement produced by the thousands of exuberant spectators is contagious and this being Barbados, horse racing is used as a great excuse for an array of entertainment and festivities. The people of Barbados love sharing their sport with visitors and a warm welcome awaits. During November and December, there are several racing fixtures - find out more at BarbadosTurfClub.org.
Of course, it's no secret that we Bajans love our cricket, and hot on the heels of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup held in the Caribbean in June, the Men in Maroon will welcome decades-long rivals, England back to the region’s shores in November. The series, dubbed The Rivalry, is set to kick off from Thursday, October 3, and will be played in both T20I and ODI formats. Antigua, Barbados and Saint Lucia are the three islands chosen to host the highly anticipated match-up.
In Barbados, the action takes place at the world famous Kensington Oval for the 3rd ODI on Wednesday, November 6 at 2pm. The landmark stadium will also see the first T20I games on Saturday and Sunday, November 9 and 10, both at 4pm.
